UPDATE: The City of Orlando has LIFTED the Lake Alert for Lake Fran.

Original notice follows

January 26, 2024 – LAKE ALERT Issued for Lake Fran

City of Orlando – To address citizen concerns related to water quality, the Stormwater Section has developed a public information system, "Lake Alert," to provide seasonal and localized warnings (and updates) for City of Orlando lakes. An announcement has been provided below regarding the lake(s) where water quality has been a concern.

Type of water quality concern: Possible elevated E. coli counts

Location: Lake Fran

On January 24, 2024, the City of Orlando retrieved water samples from Lake Fran and detected levels of E. coli that exceed state water quality standards set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. As a health precaution, the City of Orlando advises that water contact activities, including irrigation, associated with Lake Fran cease until further notice.

City personnel will place warning signs around the lake and begin collecting water samples on a routine basis to test the E. coli counts. Once E. coli counts meet acceptable State Water Quality Standards, we will remove the warning and share this update on our Lake Alert Hotline number (407.246.2220) and our Lake Alert website at orlando.gov/lakealert.
