LIFTED: Lake Alert for Lake Como

The Lake Alert for Lake Como has been lifted and the posted signs are removed. Please resume all normal water activities associated with this lake.

Original Lake Alert

September 29, 2021 - LAKE ALERT ISSUED FOR LAKE COMO

Type of water quality concern: Possible elevated fecal coliform counts due to a sanitary sewer overflow

Location: Intersection of S Bumby Avenue and E South Street

Cause: Blockage of heavy grease deposits, rags and roots

Overflow Amount: approximately 2,000 gallons

City Response: City Water Reclamation personnel stopped the overflow and cleaned the impacted areas. The City has issued the Alert as a precaution in the chance that the bacteria counts may be elevated when it reaches the lake after going through a stormwater inlet.

City crews will be posting Warning Signs around Lake Como. City Stormwater personnel will be taking bacteria samples at the lake to measure the potential impact of the spill. Once bacteria counts meet acceptable State water quality standards, updates will be sent via email and to the City's Lake Alert website and Lake Alert Hotline phone number.

As a health precaution, the City is advising that all water contact activities cease until further notice.
