Isle of Pine Preserve Now Open
On Friday November 12, Commissioner Linda Stewart joined the Environmental Protection Division to cut the ribbon leading into the Isle of Pine Preserve, part of a 3,000-acre ecological corridor in the Southeastern portion of District 4. Visitors to Isle of Pines will enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing while possibly catching glimpses of white tailed deer, turkeys, sand hill cranes, bobwhite quail and gopher tortoises in their native habitat.
The Isle of Pine Preserve, formerly known as Hampton Bay, was acquired through the Green PLACE Program in 2007. The mission of Green Place is to preserve and manage environmentally sensitive lands, and to protect water resource lands to provide quality passive recreational experience for future generations.
