City of Orlando responds to concerns about flooding in Wadeview Park
Neighbors reported severe flooding after Sunday's storms
ORLANDO, Fla. — Flash flooding in one Orlando neighborhood left a lot of homeowners with a mess and a lot of questions.
People living in the Wadeview Park neighborhood were cleaning up on Tuesday after Sunday's heavy rain.
Those affected by flash flooding wonder if Mother Nature is to blame or if construction led to the issues.
There's a $13 million project underway that stretches about a mile along Delaney Avenue from Briercliff Drive to Michigan Street.
Neighbors say the drains were blocked during the rain storm.
WESH 2 received this statement from the city of Orlando.
"City crews continue to assess areas throughout the city that experienced flooding after excessive rainfall, in some areas more than five to six inches within a matter of hours, from weekend storms. Crews were immediately mobilized over the weekend with vacuum trucks to help relieve any areas that had storm systems or inlets blocked. As a matter of prevention, Public Works crews regularly lower lake levels in anticipation of heavy rainfall, as well as take erosion control measures. Should residents experience a flash flood, they are encouraged to contact 911. These rain events can occur in a matter of minutes."
