October 28, 2022 – LAKE ALERT for Lake Adair and Lake Concord

To address citizen concerns related to water quality, the Streets and Stormwater Division has developed a public information system, "Lake Alert," to provide seasonal and localized warnings for City of Orlando lakes. An announcement has been provided below regarding the lake(s) where water quality has been a concern.

Type of water quality concern: Possible elevated E. coli counts due to a sanitary sewer overflow

Location: N Lake Adair Boulevard and Edgewater Drive

City Response: Significant rains occured in Central Florida over the period of October 27 - October 28, 2022. Various locations within the College Park area received between 5-6 inches of rain, causing an extra volume of water (both stormwater and groundwater) to enter into the sanitary system. The additional water in the sanitary system caused an overflow into the street. At the time of this alert, an undetermined volume of sanitary waste entered Lake Adair and Lake Concord. Warning signs will be placed around Lake Adair and along the shoreline of Lake Concord at Don Dudley Park. Water Reclamation staff are continuing to monitor the area and the sanitary sewer collections system for futher impacts.

The City is advising that water contact activities associated with Lake Adair and Lake Concord cease until further notice, including irrigation. City Stormwater personnel will collect water samples on a routine basis. Once E. coli counts are acceptable State Water Quality Standards, the Lake Alert Hotline number and the City's Lake Alert website will be updated.

Please continue to call the Lake Alert number, 407.246.2220, for the most up-to-date information regarding your lake.
